The Transition of Fashion Design to Green Design
Would you sacrifice your fashion sense for ethical clothing? I ask that question quite often and I get many different answers. The best answer I ever received was from a young girl in Austin, Texas who said, “Going green is not a sacrifice.”
Now it seems that the fashion industry is moving the standards to ethical and green clothing. Edun, the socially conscious fashion company launched in 2005 by Bono and Ali Hewson state that their mission is to create beautiful clothing while fostering sustainable employment in the developing areas of the world with a particular focus on Africa.
I just read that Rogan Gregory, the acclaimed designer behind Edun will design a seasonal line for Target. No doubt that Gregory will instill ethical clothing standards into the line. Will this represent the beginning of the push from other major retailers toward ethical and organic clothing with a premium on animal and human rights?
